Why Use CPM?
Patients that could benefit from home CPM (continuous passive motion) include: Chronic pain conditions, acute pain, injury or accident related conditions, as well as, post-surgical patients.
For the borderline patient who is trying to avoid surgery, CPM may prove to be an alternate treatment in relieving pain and increasing range of motion. If the muscles, ligaments and tendons can be moved in a controlled manner, a more linear healing of soft tissues occurs therefore removing unwanted scar tissue formation.
Chronic patients respond very well to CPM. As normal range of motion is restored, the patient will be able to continue with normal daily activities without pain and medication. Patients are able to use the devices in the privacy of their own homes at their convenience. It is recommended the devices be used 3 to 4 times daily for 15 minutes each session. Prescription length is usually 8 to 12 weeks depending on patient condition.
Many physicians doing joint injection will use these devices to help with medication absorption and range of motion restoration.
