The gentle passive motion of the Lumbar CPM will help to stretch the muscles, ligaments and tendons in the back to help restore elasticity and range of motion. This in turn will reduce pain and inflammation.
The motion of the CPM will cause the vertebrae to separate and allow the discs to rehydrate with spinal fluid. At the same time the pressure will be released from the nerves causing a reduction in pain. A bulging or slipped disc may be pulled back into its normal position.
CPM is a great relaxation therapy when used in conjunction with your
physician visits. Your muscle stress and nerve irritation will be reduced, that in turn will help restore a pain free life style and increased range of motion, mobility, and flexibility. In many cases, patients are able to return to their normal activities of daily living much sooner.
CPM is a great avenue to explore before surgery is scheduled. We are a firm believer in helping the body to heal it’s self naturally. If surgery must be done, the use of CPM after surgery will help to heal the soft tissues in a normal striated manner rather than conglomerated scarring. This scarring, if left untreated can lead to more pain and possibly a second surgery just to remove it.
If you suffer from chronic back pain, most of your symptoms are caused
by scar tissue. Continuous Passive Motion will help redirect the scarred tissue to a normal pattern of motion restoring range of motion, mobility, and flexibility. Another benefit of CPM use is a reduction in pain and pain medication.
Acute injuries respond very well to CPM. If started early enough, CPM can help prevent scar tissue from forming in the spine. This will also help to prevent restricted range of motion.
Over the course of the treatment we will gently increase the motion of the CPM to allow your patient to receive maximum medical improvement.
Patients are able to use this device in the comfort of their own home. Recommended use is 3-4 times daily for 15-20 minutes per session for a period of 8-12 weeks depending on your patient's condition and your wishes. Patients are required to stay under the treatment of their physician to continue the use of this equipment.
